While in Brussels, negotiations on the French-speaking side are floundering, things seem to be taking shape on the Flemish side. We learned this Wednesday that an agreement is emerging between Groen, Vooruit, Open VDL and CD&V. Trainer Elke Van den Brandt (Groen) calls for forming a coalition with these four parties. Team Fouad Ahidar and the NVA would therefore see themselves returned to the opposition.

38 new Brussels MPs have taken the oath

As a reminder, the Brussels government has the particularity of being made up of a double majority. The French-speaking parties must form a majority among themselves. The same goes for the Flemish parties.

As a reminder, Groen came out on top on the Dutch-speaking side with 4 seats. Team Fouad Ahidar followed with 3 seats. Belang, Open VLD, NVA and Vooruit each had two seats. CD&V won one.

The first discussions have taken place since June 9, led by Elke Van den Brandt, a Dutch-speaking Brussels trainer.. “We have heard all the Flemish parties represented and their wishes over the last two weeks. The N-VA, the Open VLD and Vooruit have made it known in this context that, for them, it is not possible to collaborate with the Team Fouad Ahidar list Therefore there is no possibility of a three-way coalition”, explained Elke Van den Brandt to Belga, therefore calling for a Groen-Vooruit-Open VLD-CD&V alliance.
