Kylian Mbappé had an altercation in the second half with Jan Vertonghen before teasing the Belgian defender for his own goal…

Once again, Kylian Mbappé had been identified as the number one danger on the French side. After making France the favourites for their duel against Belgium, Kevin de Bruyne had not run out of praise for the new Madrid player during the pre-match press conference.

« Kylian Mbappé is incredible. He can change a game in a second thanks to his speed. He scores a lot of goals, he is always dangerous. The quality is there, in him and in other players,” he had thus launched about the Frenchman, adding: “There are a lot of qualities in the French. They can probably make two starting elevens… maybe even four.”

A trash-talking session

And the Belgian camp followed their words with action, multiplying the double take on the Bondy player as soon as he had the ball in the left wing. Domineco Tedesco’s men finally held the former Monegasque perfectly, the latter showing himself to be hardly dangerous like the entire tricolor attack.

Kylian Mbappé did make a few forays into the Belgian area, causing a few shivers. On one of them, the Frenchman finally came up against Jan Vertonghen, who seemed to claim a foul from the former Spur before getting up. Enough to provoke the anger of the Belgian defender who did not hold back from telling him his way of thinking.

The tone rose between the two men and the referee had to intervene to calm things down. A clash that the French number 10 had not forgotten when Jan Vertonghen deflected Randal Kolo Muani’s attempt into his own goal, in the final minutes of the match: Kylian Mbappé in fact rushed towards the Red Devil to throw him a few pleasantries. This trash-talking did not prevent the two men from high-fiving each other at the final whistle.
