Following the very strong storms, several municipalities suffered flooding in the north of Haute-Marne. A shelter has been opened in Joinville.

An intense rainstorm episode impacted Haute-Marne yesterday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The cloud band crossed the department from south to north-east. Several municipalities east of Joinville were flooded after a rapid rise in water levels. The prefect activated an inter-service departmental operational center (COD) to coordinate emergency response.

Evacuation

350 interventions were undertaken by nearly 300 firefighters from Sdis 52 and around forty gendarmes. A shelter welcomed around a hundred people in Joinville at the gymnasium. It was the Sainte-Marie forge campsite that had to be evacuated in Thonnance-les-Moulins because of the rise in the Rongeant. People who were at the Suzannecourt village hall also had to be evacuated to Joinville. The first people began to be repatriated this morning. There were no casualties.

Recommendation

The mayors of the affected municipalities have organized themselves to ensure the opening of polling stations at 8 a.m. this Sunday. The prefecture recommends not walking in flooded areas; respecting barriers and signs of blocked flooded roads. There is a risk of landslides and falling trees; moving away from watercourses and reaching a high point if necessary; not going down into basements; only calling 18 in case of real necessity.
