A 40-year-old man was seriously injured in a spectacular accident that occurred Monday evening in the Rock Forest sector.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the 9111 on Bourque Boulevard, according to the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS). Speed is believed to be a factor in this accident, according to Isabelle Gendron, spokesperson for the SPS.

“According to our witnesses, the Acura vehicle was traveling quickly in the left lane and attempted to avoid two motorcyclists traveling eastbound by trying to pass them on the left shoulder,” she said.

“The driver then lost control of his vehicle, crossed both lanes and hit a culvert, before being thrown into the air. Before landing, the vehicle hit a metal fence and rolled over a few times before ending up vertically in the ditch.”

The driver was thrown from his vehicle, added Ms. Gendron.

Quickly taken to Fleurimont hospital, the 40-year-old man was treated for serious injuries, but his life is not in danger, she notes.

Argument and fire

In addition, on Saturday around 5 a.m., SPS agents received a call about a fire in progress at 879 rue de la Sainte-Famille. Smoke was coming out of the apartment upstairs, Isabelle Gendron reported.

“We quickly assisted the fire department in blocking 13th Avenue North and providing assistance to the other tenants. Witnesses reported that there was a fight between the tenants shortly before the fire alarm went off,” the police officer said.

“The fire was quickly brought under control and we have information that it started in a mattress.”

An investigation was opened and SPS officers arrested a 33-year-old woman known to the SPS.

Fortunately, no one was injured, the other tenants were taken care of by the Red Cross.
