Yet another ranking of the “best” restaurants in Toulouse has just been released. We “love” it, especially when it produces this kind of “fourzitou” style concoction ranging from crepes to emulsions, including bagels and cheesecakes. We’ll explain!

The “World’s 50 best” of San Pellegrino has made a real reputation today in haute cuisine. With its list of the 1000 best restaurants in the world, The Fork also has its little prize list. Trip Advisor, certainly in decline, continues its “best of” menu recommendations. And now Sunday, a payment solution designed for restaurants which encourages customers to leave a Google rating, is releasing its small ranking by metropolis, and visibly worldwide.

“This ranking is based on the Google rating given by customers and of course the number of reviews collected.” But, when we know the magic tricks that can exist concerning ratings, reviews, and the differences between actors who do not pay more attention to them than that and the others who are obsessed with it, this risks giving a rather funny result…

In this latest ranking, we find in the Top 3 Le Pois Gourmand by Ugo Plazzota, Les Sales Gosses by Bruno Barthe then Oh La Vache which is therefore placed just ahead of Michel Sarran’s restaurant, 4eor Cecile, 6e behind the Antica Pizzeria.

This is not to criticize Oh La Vache, which specializes in simple dishes like duck breast gratin Dauphinois and salmon en papillote with fries, or Antica Pizzeria – there, it’s all in the name – but simply to demonstrate the incoherence of such a ranking. We place in the same list, and regardless of the ranking method, a bourgeois residence where you can enjoy semi-gastronomic cuisine in the heart of a beautiful garden on the banks of the Garonne (Le Pois Gourmand) in Bouche B, a Burger chain… We have the right to prefer eating a taco to a herring with apple in oil, a salmon bagel rather than a variation of tomatoes, half-cooked red tuna, that’s not the problem, it’s simply that we’re not talking about the same thing so it doesn’t mean anything and is useless.
