“I hope you have a €5 ticket for the beef weight competition…” Mayor Jacques Fortis did not fail to present to former Prime Minister Gabriel Attal the different customs of the Sainte-Catherine fair in Briouze (Orne), this Monday, November 25, 2024.
Invited a few months ago by MP Jérôme Nury in the context of the exclusion of Briouze from the ruralités revitalization system (formerly rural revitalization zones), the former head of Government held his promise when coming to the Houlme country.

Rurality at the heart of its arrival

“I was committed to the National Assembly. I said that Briouze would remain FRR. And through it, they are all municipalities rural areas,” declared the next secretary general of the Renaissance party and current deputy for Hauts-de-Seine (92).

” It is important for me to be here, it's been several months since I heard about Briouze. »

Our rural communities are a treasure. It is thanks to this that we maintain and transmit our cultural, gastronomic and historical heritage. And that is the identity of France. I will always fight to preserve them, support them in all their projects.

Gabriel Attal

Arrived in the morning (a little late) for theinaugurationhe first went to the town hall to meet local elected officials, cut the ribbon with local children, and receive his gifts at the town hall.

Among the latter, Gabriel Attal notably received a garnished basket with local products and a bottle of from Maison Huard dating from the year of his birth (1989).

“It’s the official supplier of the Élysée and Fort Brégançon, you have to start getting used to it,” Jérôme Nury told him… After signing the commune’s book, Gabriel Attal visited the town in the middle of the Sainte-Catherine fair.

A visit to “say thank you”

During the stroll, despite everyone gathered together, no incident was not observed.

He spoke with Mayor Jacques Fortis about the town hall and its activity, with curious residents and with farmers about the agreement with Mercosur. He also recalled that he was not in favor of it, just like the rest of his group.

Anne-Marie Denis, president of FRSEA Normandie, was notably present to discuss with him agricultural news.

“I’m delighted to finally be here,” said Gabriel Attal to a few residents. It was overall a very cordial moment with elected officials and residents, even “warm and friendly”, according to Jérôme Nury.

Residents of Briouze mobilized

“I found the residents very proud and very mobilized to say thank you to him for these rural revitalization zones, about which we can say what we want, but he still kept his wordboth on the fact that Briouze and the eight Ornese communes which left it could remain in the system, and on the invitation to the calf market. »

A promise kept is a “sufficiently rare” thing, according to the MP.

We could see that he is a man of his word. While wandering around, we also saw how simple he is, he talked with the artisans and the agricultural profession. I really liked his sense of contact.

Jérôme Nury, MP

According to him, this visit allowed him to see “this rural Francewho lives fully, who sometimes feels a little abandoned by the capital. This gives hope to residents. »

A visit to the Sainte-Catherine fair

This visit to the fair also allowed him to discover all the symbols and the living heritage of the municipality.

In fact, he took part in the beef weight competition, rang the calf market bell, tasted some camembert Gillotwithout forgetting to greet Oreillette, the cow muse of the 2024 Agricultural Show, who came for the occasion.

“He was very friendlyvery simple,” says city councilor Jacques Fortis. “The streets were full. »

The fact that there was no incident did not surprise the mayor that much. “You have to know how to talk. We remain pragmatic, hard-working people and we know how to receive, it's in our ADN with the fair and the market. »
