As everywhere in France, the City of Roanne was faced with violent urban riots a year ago. Significant damage was observed in the Parc des Sports and Rue de Charlieu districts, but without affecting the city centre.
Unrest that forced the town hall to increase its municipal police forcewith the recruitment of 12 additional officials.
Municipal police in Roanne: the night brigade effective from this 1is July
Now made up of 51 people, including 33 municipal police officers, this service has thus been able to create a night brigadesince 1is July.
“It took time to recruit, train and equip the new police officers with lethal weaponry, protection, body cameras and vehicleshas explained Yves Nicolinmayor of Roanneintroducing the new team. This represents a heavy investment, costing an additional 750,000 euros per year, with a subsidy of 9,500 euros from the State and 7,800 euros from the Region.”
The Urban Protection Center (CPU), which manages the video protection cameras, will support this brigade, in liaison and good understanding with the national police and the BAC (Anti-crime Brigade).
Parking fines also help fund the new brigade.
Night surveillance will take place every evening until 2:30 a.m.et midnight on Sundays and Mondays. Even if the night remains a difficult area for the security, “Roanne remains a peaceful city” according to Yves Nicolin.
He recalled that his commune was the only one in the Loire to display a slight decrease in acts of delinquency and incivility in 2023.
