The French Athletics Championships are being held this weekend (June 29-30) in Angers. An important moment to win a title, but it is also the last opportunity for our athletes to validate the minimums for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After the European Championships and before the Olympic Games, it’s the French Athletics Championships, this Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June in Angers. Last chance for our French athletes to get the minimums for the Paris Olympics. This is the case of Amandine Brossier from Angers, competing in the 400 metres. She was hoping to qualify last weekend, in Spain and Switzerland, but failed to achieve this goal.

“It’s definitely not the most comfortable situation…”

Everything is at stake this weekend, with a double objective for our athlete, who finds himself in a complex position. “It’s not necessarily the most comfortable situation for me, but afterwards, I try to concentrate on my race and not think about the result. It’s a championship first and foremost, and the goal is to win the title for the fourth consecutive time. After that my goal is twofold. I admit that if I leave with the title, but without the individual qualification, it would be a failure! The goal is really to go for this title and this minimum time.”

“Pleasure and relaxation are super important to achieve a great performance.”

These missed minima last weekend are perhaps due to the accumulation of fatigue from competitions, thinks Amandine. But the athlete remains confident for the French Championships: “I did two races in Madrid and Geneva and Geneva was not planned. It was rather plan B to be able to continue, and to have a second race but the conditions were not right to perform a second times.

In Madrid, Friday night, I didn’t have a good feeling. I didn’t enjoy my race, and I think that enjoyment and relaxation are super important to achieve a good performance. I wasn’t there in my race. Maybe the fatigue of chaining competitions and an attitude perhaps a little too tense at the start of my race which earned me a time below what I hoped for. I’m trying to put things back in place for this weekend.”

The deadline to achieve the minimums for the Paris Games is set for this Sunday, June 30.

Pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie will be present to carry them out, but Amandine has already qualified with the 4×400 meter mixed relay.
