First constituency of Haute-Corse: in the Bastia suburbs, the National Rally’s tour de force

News from the first constituency of Haute-Corse:

  • 1st constituency of Haute-Corse, Michel Castellani in the lead with 1,100 votes in advance
  • In Bastia too, the RN is confusing the cards
  • In peri-urban Bastia, the tour de force of the National Rally
  • Reactions from candidates in the first constituency of Haute-Corse

“Have you seen the score of the National Rally in Biguglia, Lucciana or Borgo? It’s terrible.” These few words released by an elected official from Greater Bastia immediately after the announcement of Jean-Michel Marchal’s score, in this first constituency of Haute-Corse, alone sum up the thunderclap which fell this Sunday 30 June, on the occasion of the first round of these early legislative elections.

A much higher score than in 2022

By obtaining 28.80% of the votes, the candidate of the National Rally (RN) visibly managed to ride the Bardella wave in Corsica in the last European elections (40.76% of the votes obtained) to reach the second round against the deputy outgoing Michel Castellani (Femu a Corsica) who obtained 31.74% of the votes. Jean-Michel Marchal’s score literally explodes that of his predecessor, Alexis Fernandez, RN candidate at the time, who then gleaned 12.2% of those cast during the 2022 legislative elections.

And if Jean-Michel Marchal managed to invite himself to the second round, his scores in the Bastia suburbs certainly have something to do with it. In Furiani, he obtained 27.16% of the votes. A little further south, in Biguglia, the Le Pen candidate came second, with 33.62% of the votes, hot on the heels of the Femu a Corsica candidate, who for his part received 38.21% of the votes.

First in Borgo and Lucciana

But it was in Borgo and Lucciana that the former deputy mayor of Marseille and retired engineer achieved a real feat by climbing to the top step of the podium. In Anne-Marie Natali’s stronghold, he collected 1,316 votes, far ahead of Julien Morganti, who came in second place and received 728 votes. Michel Castellani only came in third place, with 642 votes. In José Galletti’s land, he once again took first place by achieving 42.88% against 24% for the candidate of the territorial majority.
