In Puy-de-Dôme, the RN pushes hard, the left resists… What to remember from the first round

The National Rally was the big beneficiary of the increased turnout in the legislative elections in Puy-de-Dôme, almost tripling its number of votes in each constituency compared to 2022.

The National Rally pushed hard, very hard, in Puy-de-Dôme as elsewhere. But the left under the banner of the New Popular Front (NFP) resisted, with four of its five candidates coming out on top at the end of this first round. In 2022, the left had placed its five representatives in the lead, for three final victories.

The high turnout particularly benefited the National Rally, which saw its number of ballots triple or almost triple in each constituency: in Issoire, Benjamin Chalus collected 22,289 votes (8,379 in 2022 for Didier Brulé) and moved the RN from 3rd to 1st place.

Three possibilities of triangular

In Thiers-Ambert, Brigitte Carletto, who was 15,700 votes behind André Chassaigne (PCF) in 2022, is only 539 votes behind this time. In Riom, Christine Pirès-Beaune (PS) also sees her lead shrink significantly. We have therefore seen a desire to see the RN win, not just a vote of sanction against the government.

How RN activists and supporters experienced this election evening in Puy-de-Dôme

Since 2002, we have no longer seen the possibility of a triangular in Puy-de-Dôme. The strong civic surge on Sunday creates, this time, three possibilities for a three-way final: in the Clermont-Cournon, Clermont-Montagne and Issoire constituencies. In the latter, Valérie Goléo (NFP) announced, as soon as the results were known, that she was withdrawing to prevent the victory of the RN candidate. In the other two, Hervé Prononce (Horizons), who came third, and Laurence Vichnievsky (Modem), who came second, should hold their own against the RN candidate and that of the NFP.

Pirès-Beaune by a short head over Riom

A triangular on Clermont-Montagne

A three-way race is looming in the Clermont-Montagne constituency in Puy-de-Dôme, following the first round of the legislative elections. Nicolas Bonnet (New Popular Front – EELV) is ahead of the outgoing MP Laurence Vichnievsky (Ensemble – MoDem) and the RN candidate, Nadine Pers. The full results in this article.

The RN in the lead with Chalus sur Issoire

Voters in the 4th constituency of Puy-de-Dôme (Issoire) made their choice and placed the representative of the National Rally, Benjamin Chalus, at the top of the vote. He will be opposed to the outgoing MP, Delphine Lingemann (Ensemble) during the second round. Full results in this article.

Chassaigne (PCF) and Carletto (RN) neck and neck in Thiers-Ambert

The match in the second round of the 2022 legislative elections will be replayed in 2024 in the fifth constituency of Puy-de-Dôme (Thiers-Ambert). But this time, the gap between Brigitte Carletto (RN) and André Chassaigne (NFP) is much smaller. The analysis of the results can be read in this article.
