Alpine skiing: Cyprien Sarrazin inaugurates his gondola in Kitzbühel

The hero of the Streif has returned to the scene of his double exploit. Remember, last January, Cyprien Sarrazin won both downhills on the legendary World Cup downhill. Marco Odermatt, third then second, was beaten by the French phenomenon. The best skier in the world was unable (yet) to take on the most terrible event on the circuit.

As tradition dictates, “Cyp” was welcomed to Kitzbühel on Friday for the inauguration of a gondola which will now bear his name. “It’s emotionally strong, it’s in this kind of moment that we come to realize what we achieved in the winter,” explained the Frenchman. Kitzbühel is so special, we are welcomed like heroes here. It’s crazy. Walking under his cabin, seeing his name in this magical place, it’s very special!”

In Austria, Odi’s “executioner” entered another dimension in one weekend. “Cyprien, you made me burst into tears. Your joy, your celebration with your jump on the air podium. It was so emotional: thank you for this moment!”, said Toni Bodner, director of the region’s ski lifts. “It’s a dream for any athlete to go down here, the Streif is even more impressive without snow,” continued the French skier. My life has changed since this double feat, but for the better!”

The Habs were accompanied by two compatriots in Tyrol: Clément Noël and Johan Clarey. The first received his gondola after his slalom triumph in 2019, he who had not yet been able to come there. The second one has never won on the Myth. But the retiree was invited for this special moment because of his incredible consistency: twelve top 10s and four second places!

Alsace enthusiasts came especially to see the cabin handover, as well as locals. “My father surprised me and didn’t want to miss this moment, he was even more moved than me!” smiled Cyprien Sarrazin.

Marco Odermatt’s turn to treat himself to a famous red cabin? The answer will be in seven months, on Saturday, January 25, 2025 to be precise.
