“This thug behavior is simply scandalous”: two owners held responsible for the collapse of this Nice road

Between 104 and 114 Avenue Durandy, on the hills of Nice, the road partially collapsed on Friday March 8 following a first landslide, which occurred on a construction site, on Sunday March 3. Since then, the road has been blocked, both for pedestrians and cars. The roadway is far too weakened to support alternating traffic.

So there remains a hill and raw spirits. All the more under tension since the provisional conclusions of the expert mandated by the Nice administrative court. The report, published Thursday June 20, implicates two owners. Not respecting the building permit, the earthworks on their plot weakened the embankment.

“Thug behavior”

Despite the ongoing procedure and the reports drawn up by the City and the Metropolis for “violation of the public domain and town planning rules”, it was also noted that one of the owners continued with his construction site.

Enough to make the municipality jump, which issued an incendiary press release: “This thug behavior is simply scandalous. The City will not let this happen and will take all measures in its power to claim compensation for the damage suffered. “

Still no reopening date

Another dark point of the report: the road cannot be reopened in the state. The creation of a temporary “work” is necessary. The City is currently unable to specify whether it is a retaining wall. Under the authority of the court, the work ordered by the Metropolis can only begin after the expert’s conclusions have been transmitted. Which will allow “dimensioning the work”. No delivery date has therefore yet been announced. And no provisional budget has been communicated. The same goes for the compensation that the Metropolis will demand from owners.

In the meantime, the daily lives of local residents remain disrupted. The road closure forces them to take a 20-minute longer route. When it is not congested by the exceptional influx of vehicles.
