Before Latino, Carry culture et loisirs offers five jazz-gospel evenings from July 2 to 8 at the Théâtre de Verdure. Here are the recipes for success and the ingredients for 2024.

Like every artistic summer on the Blue Coast, André Cresci knows how to become a traveling and multi-card producer. After the very successful free gala of “his” Micadance on the crowded port of Sausset in mid-June, our ex-architect, now retired and a diver, is a tireless associative bulimic who demonstrates a strong gift for ubiquity, which will continue the summer three times on the Carryenne scene via its other association Carry culture and leisure.

Before the Latin festival, the jazz-gospel festival will open hostilities this Tuesday at the Théâtre de Verdure. “For its 11th edition, Jazz under the stars has reached maturity since the 2023 edition“, proudly proclaims the president, who believes that his festival is “at the crossroads“.

Name change

A recognized regional reputation that was well worth a change of status and name, since the festival is now renamed this year the Swing Jazz festival au chant des cigales, still under the sponsorship of the local star Jean Pierre Foucault and with the solid partnership of the municipality, the Departmental Council, the CIC and the programmers, and the hard core of around twenty volunteer pillars.

With a budget reaching 30,000 euros for a line-up of well-known and recognized Jazz artists, the festival continues to change dimension.

It feeds on the golden hours already experienced in Carry. Who has forgotten the world icon Rhoda Scott, who generously came to endorse this nascent festival, with an unforgettable concert and a rhythmic alternation between piano and organ, with her expert and rhythmic hands, and, under her keyboards, always her bare feet that made her legend?

These are the golden hours that André and his troops have striven to reproduce, with a programme that has each time delighted the initiated and astounded the uninitiated.

It is this same excellence that the 2024 casting will program every evening from July 2 to 5, where we will see one after another the magnificent regional artist-ambassadors, heirs to the eternal names that are Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Monty Alexander and Chet Baker.

Monday July 8 will bring this 2024 session to a spectacular close, with the 35 singers from Shiny Colors who will make gospel shine like never before.

Upon arrival, seven groups will have followed one another at a rate of two groups per evening, for the best and for jazz.
