Fontaine-l’Evêque: no holidays for safety around schools, the children’s municipal council launches a security campaign

At the initiative of the Children’s Municipal Council, the “school area security” project consists of placing signs near each school in the area asking drivers to be vigilant and slow down when approaching school buildings. A competition was organized within each school and a jury selected the works that are publicly displayed from June 29.

If the young people got involved in this project, it was after it emerged among the subjects concerning the population on the fringes of the electoral campaigns. “A number of municipal councillors had addressed the issue of security around schools during their election campaign. The same issue often emerged from the consultation of their peers,” we are told.

The implementation of this project is intended to reduce road accidents involving children, raise awareness among drivers, inform them, educate them on the importance of adapting their driving around schools. The aim is also to promote pedestrian safety, encourage children to adopt safe behaviors as pedestrians, such as crossing at zebra crossings, looking both ways and avoiding distractions. The safety campaign is intended to be participatory by actively involving parents, teachers, students and other members of the community in raising awareness about road safety. “The young people from the Children’s Municipal Council also want to create a culture of road safety within the school community by integrating fun activities during the year.”

In order to successfully complete the project, the children proceeded methodically. From the presentation of the project to the College and the municipal council to the inauguration of the project with an exhibition, the children presented the project to service clubs, organized a competition, designated a jury as well as the winners and finally arrived at the installation.

In total, 24 panels will be placed around the schools, this operation represents a cost of approximately 2,000 euros to which is added the labor of the works department. The competition was open to all 5th and 6th grade students of the ten primary schools in the entity.

Charleroi: the finals of the e-sport tournament on FC24 will take place on July 13 at Quai 10. The day of activities is free for everyone. Charleroi: free sports courses for everyone are organized all summer
