Rain, storm, downpours, flooded cellars, mud…the scenario is common in South Luxembourg with each storm. Yesterday evening, firefighters from the Aubange area, helped in particular by their colleagues from Bouillon and Bastogne, as well as Civil Protection, intervened on several occasions to help the population. This Sunday morning, the mud was still visible in several villages or streets in the commune of Aubange. Cosilux referred to around 400 interventions in the Aubange-Musson area.
“Like a tsunami”
Those affected took advantage of social networks to reassure their loved ones and film the damage observed. Like for example the Thines family, who run a grocery store in Autelhaut.
“Overall, we were lucky. We “only” had 10cm in the store. We avoided the worst. All night, we sheltered the goods and tried to evacuate the water. It was impressive to see. We were returning from Gouvy in the evening. When we arrived in the village, we saw what looked like a tsunami! Waves of water were coming in from everywhere. The whole street was flooded. The neighbors’ barn too. The back door of the barn would no longer close because the current was so strong. There were tires on rims, they were carried away by the current. The store is closed Monday and Tuesday, we hope to open normally on Wednesday,” Victor Thines
This Sunday, several cultural events were to take place in South Luxembourg. Some organizations have had to cancel their events. Example in Wolkrange where the country party is postponed.
