Shortly before the news was made official, Elliotte Friedman said that contract negotiations between the Leafs and Max Domi had intensified in the last 24 hours and that we could expect a four-year contract, below four million dollars annually.

Minutes later, Chris Johnston confirmed that the two sides had reached an agreement before July 1.

The former Canadian player signed an excellent four-year contract, worth $3.75 million annually.

With the salary cap going up, I would have thought the player and his agent would ask for more money. After all, even though he won’t have the 72-point season he had in Montreal, he’s still a dynamic player who’s worth his weight in gold.

He clearly wanted to stay in Toronto and the feeling was mutual. For the team, it ensures that it keeps the services of an energetic player and on the athlete’s side, it ensures financial stability in a city that knows it very well.

Will there be any clauses in the contract? Rick Springhetti seems to think this is essential.

In Toronto, extending Domi’s contract was a priority, but that doesn’t mean the work is done.

Chris Tanev is due to sign and the club has thousands of unrestricted and restricted free agents. In addition to Tanev, Tyler Bertuzzi, TJ Brodie, Joel Edmundson, Mark Giordano, Ilya Lyubushkin, Martin Jones, Ilya Samsonov, Matt Murray and John Klingberg will all become UFAs. Four more guys will become RFAs tomorrow.

There is also Mitch Marner’s file lying around on Brad Treliving’s table… Big summer in the Queen City.

A lot of

– He could be a great target for the Canadian.

– Questionable transactions in Tampa.

– Alex Nylander will not receive a qualifying offer from the Jackets.
