After checking their bags at the entrance, in compliance with Vigipirate rules and with increased vigilance, the 90 middle school students calmly headed to their exam rooms. No other students are present in the establishment and the bells have been turned off to allow maximum concentration. Thirty minutes before the exam, the atmosphere is relaxed. “We know how many points we need to pass,” put several young girls at the entrance to the middle school into perspective.

A leak of the subjects two years ago

In the meantime, the deadline is approaching dangerously for these young people who are going to take the first major test of their lives. In the principal’s office, the subjects are still sleeping on a table. Sealed and sent by the rectorate a week earlier, the history and geography subject is waiting to be distributed to the nine rooms in the building. Everything is confidential. “The system is well-established, but we have to be prepared for any scenario, even at the last minute: teacher absences or a leak of subjects like two years ago,” recalls Hnia Naciri, deputy principal. And in this case, it’s a completely new organization.”

Twenty minutes before the start of the exam, the invigilators come to collect the files and head into the classrooms specially set up for the exams. One student per table, each a few centimeters apart, they wait in silence. A latecomer, nonchalant but smiling, manages to slip between the doors. He is lucky because nine minutes later, the copies were distributed and the pens were starting to scratch the paper.

The results of the Brevet in the Nancy-Metz Academy will be revealed between July 8 and 12.
