HC Utah: A small blunder on the part of Bill Armstrong?

Since its arrival in Salt Lake City, the new National Hockey League franchise has generated a great deal of interest, especially because of the mystery surrounding its identity. Led by André Tourigny, the team has not yet officially chosen its name, but has recently revealed its colors. For the 2024-2025 season, the club will be temporarily known as the Utah Hockey Club.

To determine the final name, fans were asked to select from six options: Mammoth, Blizzard, Outlaws, Venom, Utah Hockey Club and Yeti. Their vote had to be submitted by June 20. Well, it seems that GM Bill Armstrong couldn’t hold his tongue as to who the winning name was.

At his post-first-round press conference Friday night, Armstrong listed one of six options in response to a reporter’s question about Tij Iginla.

“When we got to the No. 5 pick, that’s when we knew. That’s when we knew he was going to be a Utah Yeti, I think.” – Bill Armstrong

He tried to sweep this mistake under the rug, but his efforts were in vain.

“I’m not allowed to choose the name, but I think little kids in Utah vote about 25 times a day. So I think they got it. » – Bill Armstrong

Was this really a blunder on his part, or was he trying to confuse the issue and surprise fans during the official announcement?

As a reminder, the Utah team will not have a permanent name and emblem during the next campaign.
