Saturday evening, a wedding party in Cannes turned into drama. A 4-year-old boy was hit by a car and died instantly.
The accident occurred around 9:15 p.m. in the La Bocca district. The boy’s family attended the party as guests. According to a police source, the child “escaped his mother’s vigilance” and tried to “cross the road to join his father who was on the other side”.
Hit by a car arriving at the same time, the little boy did not survive. The firefighters, who arrived on site, could only note his death as reported by La Dépêche.
The driver of the car was “set upon by the crowd” before fleeing. He then surrendered to the police and was arrested at his home in Roquette-sur-Siagne in the evening. The alcohol and drug tests carried out on him were negative.
Four witnesses to the tragedy, in a state of shock, were treated by firefighters. Among them, two people who felt unwell upon learning of the child’s death were transported to Cannes hospital.
This tragic accident has left the victim’s family and the wedding party participants in mourning. 35 firefighters were mobilized for this intervention.
