Diass, July 2 (APS) – The Secretary General of the Autonomous Union of Civil Aeronautics Workers of Senegal (SYNATRACS), Mamadou Diop, warned on Monday of the “failures” and “gaps” which could, according to him, affect the proper functioning of the country’s airports.

“Senegal’s airports, despite their crucial importance for the economic and tourist development of the country, face several challenges and shortcomings which impact their operational efficiency, their security and the quality of services offered to passengers,” stressed Mamadou Diop.

The shortcomings observed at various levels, “reveal gaps in infrastructure management, staff training and compliance with international standards,” he told reporters.

“These shortcomings,” continued Mr. Diop, “affect [gravement] the operation of our Airports and present high risks in terms of safety of air operations and can affect the image of our airports”.

Mamadou Diop also deplored “the lack of adequate training” of staff.

“This shortcoming affects not only flight safety, but also the efficiency of services offered to passengers and the ability to meet national and international standards,” insisted Mr. Diop.

He called on the new authorities to find “urgent solutions to these shortcomings” for effective management of Senegal’s airports, in order to guarantee safety and quality of service.
