Canada Day ended tragically for a boater on the Ottawa River Monday evening.

A man ended up in the water at the Hull marina for reasons that remain unknown, after the Canada Day fireworks in Plaines-LeBreton Park. The boat was moored, according to the Gatineau Police Department (SPVG), when the person fell from the boat.

The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m.

The Gatineau Fire Department’s Water Rescue Unit and the Ottawa Fire Department’s Water Rescue Unit were on site to search for the missing person.

The search operation is still ongoing. On Tuesday morning, the SPVG indicated that these must continue.
