Burglary in a shopping center: the SPVM arrests 10 suspects – Montreal Police Department

My neighborhood

The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) has arrested no fewer than 10 suspects in connection with a robbery committed at a jewelry store in a West Island shopping mall on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. The suspects were arrested in Pointe-Claire shortly after the incident, on April 11 at around 1 a.m., as they attempted to flee in three vehicles.

The suspects arrested are eight men and two women, aged 19 to 38. At the time of the simultaneous arrests, the group was in possession of a safe belonging to the robbed business, jewelry and other items valued at approximately $3 million. Also inside the getaway vehicles were a radio jammer and burglary tools that were allegedly used to allow the suspects to gain entry to the shopping centre and the targeted jewelry store.

The suspects then appeared at the Montreal courthouse to face charges of breaking and entering, theft, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools. The 10 people will remain detained.

The investigation and arrests were carried out by the West Project Investigation Section, with the support of patrol officers from neighborhood stations and certain specialized units of the SPVM. The various information collected by the investigation team suggests that the suspects would be linked to the South American Theft Groups (SATG). Operating in several countries, members of this criminal network travel to carry out organized theft activities. SATG are monitored by various police organizations and border services.

Collaboration of the population

The investigation will continue. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact 911 or their local station. It is also possible to communicate anonymously and confidentially with Info-Crime Montréal at 514 393-1133 or via the reporting form available on the infocrimemontreal.ca website.
