During the metropolitan council of June 24, 2024, the Metropolis of Lyon voted unanimously to strengthen and extend its action in the fight against substandard housing, for the benefit of the most modest residents.

The Metropolis of Lyon voted this Monday, June 24 to strengthen its fight against substandard housing on its territory. Various measures have been taken, including the strengthening of the 3 existing systems and the deployment this year of actions targeted at the most degraded co-ownerships.

In the Lyon metropolitan area, it is estimated that around 2.1% of private primary residences are potentially unfit, i.e. which present risks to the health or safety of their occupants, or more than 10,000 homes according to figures communicated by the metropolitan area.

A budget of 5.3 million euros

50% of the buildings supported by the various programs to combat substandard housing are co-ownerships. The latter very often encounter problems of management, deterioration of buildings and fragile occupation.” explains the community in a press release. Before continuing: “Faced with this assessment, the Metropolis of Lyon wanted to target its actions towards vulnerable co-owners by mobilizing funds from the National Housing Agency (ANAH) with the establishment of a new Scheduled Operation for the Improvement of Housing – Degraded co-ownerships (OPAH-CD).
