Until July 6, 8 women in remission will set off to conquer Mont Blanc to show everyone that there is life after cancer. A sporting challenge, of course, but also a message of prevention and awareness about breast cancer. A challenge and a physical challenge for a strong message: 9 out of 10 breast cancers can be cured if detected early.

At the very beginning, it was a meeting of two people very involved in the life of Niort. That of Julien Viroulaud, president of the association We are Diversiteam and Isabelle Deschamp, president of the association Les PrinSEINSes. Together, they decided to take on a challenge with women in remission from cancer. This one is called La Cordée de l’Après, a sporting and human adventure to highlight life after the disease and prevention during the ascent of Mont-Blanc by motivated women. There are 8 warriors aged 37 to 61 taking up the challenge: Isabelle, Florence, Christine, Léa, Jessica, Vérose, Mélanie and Valérie. Nevertheless, the project is huge and requires quite intense physical preparation. Mont-Blanc is earned and humility must prevail. Since September 2023, the team has been following a weekly sports training program (cross fit) with 2 physical trainers, Antoine and Jimmy, from Team Coaching in Niort. But not only that, since the group goes hiking, climbing, caving and even abseiling down the Donjon. The ascent will be done in several phases, accompanied by 2 mountain guides and a support team to ensure maximum safety and to be able to react in the event of health concerns. 3 days of acclimatization, 2 days of ascent, 1 day of descent and 1 day of recovery with the families are planned if the weather is good. We have of course arranged to meet them on their return to review the adventure.

L’association
The association Les PrinSEINSes promotes prevention and research against breast cancer, and supports women affected by ALL cancers through concrete actions (professional assessments; health sports; donations to research). It currently has around a hundred members.
The association’s “philosophy” is “Kintsugi”. This traditional Japanese art consists of repairing broken porcelain or ceramics using gold powder to make a precious object. More broadly, it is the very philosophy of “resilience”, the art of repairing one’s wounds and emerging stronger.
