Ziguinchor, June 18 (APS) – The National Integrated Waste Management Company (SONAGED) carried out an emergency operation on the night of Monday Tuesday allowing the removal of approximately 249 tonnes of waste from the Boucotte market in Ziguinchor, learned about APS from an authorized source.
The announcement was made by the operations manager of the SONAGED geographic information system for the South Pole, Mouhamadou Moustapha Sall.
“Today, the volume of waste that has been landfilled is estimated at around 249 tonnes,” he told the press. He specified that the cleaning operation took place during the night from Monday to Tuesday, at the Boucotte market.
“The preparation of religious events, more particularly Tabaski, has always been one of the key moments for solid waste management. In Ziguinchor, for this year, Sonaged has put in place an important system to compensate for possible malfunctions [du] system,” he explained.
In the commune of Ziguinchor, he said, Sonaged deployed seven packing bins on Tabaski day for the morning collection. To do this, the passage times of these compactor bins were reorganized in certain neighborhoods and major arteries.
A containerization system has been installed, through the installation of garbage bins on the main arteries of the municipality and poly-bins at sites with high waste production, added Mouhamadou Moustapha Sall.
He pointed out that “certain neighborhoods such as Lyndiane, Colobane, Peyrissac, Kénia, Château d’eau have benefited from the contribution of standardized grouping points, a new system in the commune of Ziguinchor”. He explains that “these collection points allow diversification of the collection system”.
During the nighttime cleaning operation of the Boucotte market, more than fifty cleaning agents were deployed as part of the waste collection and evacuation system, he said. “These agents were accompanied by three compactor trucks which ensured the evacuation of waste and nighttime collection in the main arteries,” greeted Mr. Sall.
SONAGED organized a cleaning tour on Monday in the main arteries of the city of Ziguinchor, as a prelude to the nighttime cleaning operation carried out during the night from Monday to Tuesday at the Boucotte market.
