Homeless camp in Longueuil: the help resource will move

The help resource for people experiencing homelessness, La Halte du Coin, will move in the hope of reducing the size of the encampment which has been set up near its premises in Longueuil and which is causing concern among residents. residents of the area.

Around 25 tents are pitched around La Halte du Coin, but also a school and a library along Després Street, between Bourassa and Joliette streets.

As the resource is at maximum capacity, it is no longer able to welcome people in need into its disused church. Its general director Pierre Rousseau therefore announced that it would move in the coming days.

“By moving, there will be fewer services here, […] we hope that the encampment will decrease,” he mentioned in an interview with LCN on Friday.

Mr. Rousseau assured that a dialogue had been opened between the members of the camp and the people of the sector.

“There are many more [ces] “people who want to live in peace, but there are actions that occur that are unacceptable and we cannot defend the indefensible,” he nevertheless admitted.

Aware of the situation, the mayor of Longueuil, Catherine Fournier, told TVA Nouvelles on Thursday that she would unveil a game plan in the coming days to curb the homelessness crisis.
