New car tax in force from July 1

Following the acceptance of the “Cheaper Plates” initiative, a new tax calculation was submitted to Parliament. The latter having accepted it and the referendum deadline having expired, the new tax comes into force on 1is July. The Vehicle Office will therefore send invoices to motor vehicle owners for the second half of 2024 in the coming days.

Do you own a passenger car? Before the 1is July 2024, the tax on your passenger car was calculated only on the total weight. From 1is July 2024, it will also take into account the power in kW and CO emissions2.

Do you own an electric passenger car? During the first three years following the entry into force of the new calculation system, passenger cars with a 100% electric propulsion engine benefit from a 20% reduction on the amount of the tax. The reduction will be applied from 1is July 2024 to June 30, 2027.

Do you own a delivery vehicle? The tax will continue to be calculated under the old system, but a 25% reduction will be applied to all delivery vehicles.

Do you own another category of vehicle? For all other vehicles (motorcycles, trucks, agricultural machinery, etc.), the old formula remains current. It will always be the total weight which will determine the amount of the tax and the reductions linked to electric, hybrid engines, etc. will apply as in the past.

Do you want to simplify your life? The Vehicle Office offers the possibility of registering for eBill, the electronic invoicing system of the canton of Jura, in order to receive your invoices directly in your e-banking. This way of proceeding saves resources and avoids errors. We recommend that you join now.
