Fiat presents its new affordable electric car, the Grande Panda

Fiat had announced it: the brand planned to launch an affordable electric car based on the electric Citroën C3. This is now done with the first images of this Fiat Grande Panda, of which here is the first information.

If Fiat is known for one thing in Europe, it’s for its small, affordable cars: the 500, obviously, but also the legendary Panda. The move to electrification does not seem to be reversing this tradition, with the electric 500, the 600 and the license-free Topolino, but which have just been joined by a newcomer: the Grande Panda.

Fiat announced it last February with an attractive concept, now the brand has just revealed the first images via a press release. On the program: the base of the Citroën ë-C3… and a very pop presentation.

A very fresh style

Upon discovering these first images, we realize that the Fiat designers have done a great job of hiding the base of the little Citroën. This Grande Panda has a style reminiscent of the original Panda from the 80s, with a very cubic style, mixed with very technological details, such as these pixel optics or the very elaborate 17-inch rims.

The sides surprise with embossing of the letters “Panda” on the doors, while a huge “Fiat” takes place on the rear trunk. The launch color, a proud yellow, sets the mood.

In terms of dimensions, Fiat announces 3.99 meters in length, or 2 cm less than the C3. However, no information has been communicated on the interior, and we will have to wait until July for the full presentation of this new affordable car.

An attractive price, a range to follow

Fiat also remains very discreet about the technical characteristics of this Grande Panda, simply specifying that an electric and hybrid version will be available. However, we know that this new Panda is based on the Smart Car platform, inaugurated by the C3, which is enough to allow us to make some assumptions.

The Grande Panda electric should therefore use the 44 kWh battery from the Citroën, giving it around 320 km of autonomy, coupled with a 113 hp engine. As for the hybrid version, it should use the 100 hp mHEV unit, which is arriving on the Citroën at the end of the year.

Prices should reflect the main lines of the Citroën, with a first price around 20,000 euros ecological bonus deducted. Note that it will not be produced in Italy, which may not improve relations between Stellantis and the Italian government.

Note that this Grande Panda is only the first stone of a whole range. An SUV version, based on the C3 Aircross and the Opel Frontera (which could take the Multipla name) will follow, as will a sedan and a pick-up, at the rate of one launch per year.
