Two days after the serious accident suffered by Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin on the Stelvio track, Swiss Gino Caviezel fell violently during the super-G in Bormio which began this Sunday morning.

The Bormio track continues to be talked about… and not for the right reasons. Widely criticized for its dangerousness by many skiers after Cyprien Sarrazin's serious fall this Friday, the Italian route was the scene of a new accident this Sunday, December 29.

The Bormio super-G was in fact interrupted at the start of the race following a heavy fall from Switzerland's Gino Caviezel, bib number 1. The Swiss skier fell after about forty seconds while passing through a gate, just before the San Pietro jump. He lost a ski and slipped several dozen meters on this very steep slope.

Caviezel immediately made a hand signal to alert the emergency services who quickly intervened, seeming to complain about the right leg. He was airlifted and taken to hospital for tests.

A little earlier in the morning, Frenchman Alexis Pinturault had withdrawn from this race, not considering himself “in the physical and mental condition to start”.
