MEXICO CITY – The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, sent a New Year’s message this Tuesday, planting a tree and reflecting on the historic 2024 that closes, while calling for participation in the 2025 judicial election.
“Today we close 2024. It is a moment of reflection and to think about what happened this year in personal, family and for our country terms. I want to thank each and every one of you for the support we have had,” said the Mexican president in a video , in which he is seen planting a conifer.
Likewise, he recalled that last June he triumphed in the presidential elections with a record of 36 million votes, 59.75% of the electorate, and highlighted that in the year that closes “a great president left the government, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that transformed the life of our country, together with the people of Mexico.”
Sheinbaum reiterated that he will continue the “fourth transformation”, the term by which the political movement started by López Obrador is known.
“2025 is a good year. Remember that in June there will be the election of people from the Judicial Branch, that is, judges, magistrates, ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation,” continued the president in her end-of-year message.
Sheinbaum pointed out that Mexico is “perhaps the only country in the world that will democratically elect the Judiciary.”
“And that is something very good for our country, it is part of this profound transformation and the democratic life that we are living,” he added.
Furthermore, he predicted that this year will be good for Mexico and assured that on his part he will always put everything in his hands, heart and mind, “to continue transforming and to make the country even greater.”
“We are going to do very well. I know this because there is unity among the people of Mexico,” said the leader.
She also highlighted the historic achievement of becoming the first woman to govern the country and repeated her well-known phrase: “I did not arrive alone, all Mexican women arrived.”
“We closed the year by planting this tree, it is called ‘Abies divino’, it is a conifer that is native to Mexico, to the forests of the center and south of the country,” said the president, while digging and flattening the land.
He also shared that he learned to shovel when he was a student and working in the rural community of Cheranástica, in the western state of Michoacán, making stoves with mud and sand.
“With this fir tree, this conifer, we close the year and we wish everyone all the best for 2025. And long live Mexico,” the president concluded in her message.
