A serious accident occurred this Saturday June 29 in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes). Shortly after 8 p.m., a 4-year-old boy died after being hit by a car. The tragedy occurred on Chemin de la Bastide Rouge, in the La Bocca district.

Around thirty firefighters quickly intervened. They found the child in cardio-respiratory arrest. Their efforts were unsuccessful in resuscitating him. Four witnesses in a state of shock and suffering from fainting were also taken into care.

According to our information, the little boy was attending a wedding party whose festivities were overlooking the street. He wanted to join his father after seeing him on the sidewalk opposite when the car hit him.

After knocking down the boy, the driver stopped and called the police. He then explained that he was afraid of being attacked because of a crowd that had formed around him and decided to get back in his car. He continued on the road to his home in La Roquette-sur-Siagne.

It was there that the police arrested him. He was then taken into custody at the Cannes police station. According to information from our colleagues at BFM Nice Côte d’Azur, his initial toxicological tests were negative.

Contacted this Sunday, June 30, the public prosecutor of the Grasse public prosecutor’s office confirms that an investigation has been opened and indicates that the Cannes police station is seized of the facts. Investigations are ongoing.
