After the thefts of several vehicles in the Hautes-Pyrénées and Haute Garonne, two young men aged 20 were arrested by the gendarmerie of 65 following a chase which ended in an accident.

The thief took all the risks to escape the police. Last weekend in Campan, the Jean-Marie Larrieu Medical-Educational Institute (IME) was the victim of the theft of 2 cars and a van. Facts reported to the Bagnères-de-Bigorre gendarmerie, which distributed the report of the stolen vehicles to all units of the department.

On Sunday, the Lannemezan gendarmes on patrol spotted one of the vehicles in circulation with its trunk open, with a loaded scooter in the back. The police decided to check the driver who, far from cooperating, suddenly accelerated and fled. Chased, the man tries to outrun the Lannemezan gendarmes over dozens of kilometers. Until he ended up losing control of his vehicle at the Lanespède level crossing, after once again refusing to stop in the face of the gendarmes from the Tournay community of brigades, who had come to reinforce their colleagues to intercept driver.

When he left the road, the fugitive hit a safety barrier and found himself trapped in the passenger compartment of the damaged car. Cornered, he immediately admitted to the soldiers that he had stolen the vehicle and the scooter which was in the trunk, and denounced an accomplice whose address he gave to Odos.

Misdeeds in Haute-Garonne

Arrested in turn, the first’s “friend” also admits to having participated in the thefts of vehicles from the IME of Campan, of the scooter and of a motorcycle in the department of Haute-Garonne. All this in just one weekend. The gendarmes of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre company informed their counterparts on the 31st of these arrests, and all of the stolen vehicles were returned to their rightful owners.

The two thieves aged around twenty, unfavorably known for similar acts, will be tried in Tarbes in January 2025.
