A group of industrialists publishes front-page ads to defend Baharav-Miara

The front pages of major Israeli dailies on Wednesday were adorned with full-page advertisements in support of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, in the context of her troubles with the government.

They were placed by the Israel Business Forum, which represents most private sector employees of the country’s 200 largest companies.

Ministers have repeatedly demanded Baharav-Miara’s dismissal due to her opposition to measures she says run counter to Israeli laws and standards. Ynet recently reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was “no longer ruling out” his dismissal.

The announcements, which were published on fake front pages of Haaretzet Israel Hayom among others, called on the Attorney General to “continue to preserve the rule of law on behalf of all of us.”

Members of Netanyahu’s cabinet and other coalition politicians attacked business leaders for placing the ads.

“Tycoons love Gali,” National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir wrote on social network the latter’s intervention in the operational affairs of the police and his politicization of police promotions.

“I have news for the Business Forum. It does not protect the State from
right,” Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana wrote on X.

“The law is determined by the authority of the legislature […] And if the people wish to replace their representatives, whether they do not like their legislation, their actions, their behavior or the color of their eyes, they sometimes have the right and the opportunity to do so. »

“The people cannot replace the rule of the jurists, who have arrogated to themselves a power and a force that neither the legislator nor the people have ever given them,” Ohana continued.
