A few days before the release of the highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC, its creator talks about the size of this monster addition.

Size at the center of the project

It’s almost time to welcome Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which is only a few weeks away from its release. And before that, the developers decided to increase the hype. In a new interview with PC Gamer, Miyazaki talked about the team’s goal to make players feel familiar enough in terms of the dimension to explore with Shadow of the Erdtree: At the very beginning there were a lot of possibilities, but one of the things that was determined very early on was the size », Miyazaki said. And to add:

We wanted this map to be to scale, as we wanted the player to have an experience comparable to the base game. We wanted them to rediscover this feeling of discovery, wonder and exploration. We needed a card that would support this feeling and reinforce it.

The man also discussed in more detail the new zone, which will bring new subtleties to the experience, so as to slightly disorient the player :

Obviously being exactly the same thing, but smaller, wouldn’t be enough. So we wanted to take a more granular approach, is the word we use. The density of this map, the relationship between dungeons and open areas, and how they intertwine, are all elements that we wanted to explore in depth. That’s something we wanted to explore again in the DLC: We wanted to recapture that sense of scale, but in a slightly different way, with a slightly different granularity.

As we recall, this new piece of the adventure will offer new areas, new bosses, new weapons, but also new abilities, all at the price of 39.99 euros. Speaking of which, we have already played the adventure for a few hours and we are particularly impressed by it.

Epic DLC?

In a recent epic three-minute video, the From Software teams revealed the context and events preceding the adventure in Shadow of the Erdtree, the Elden Ring DLC. Images which open on Miquella, Malénia’s twin brother, in other words the most difficult boss of the original game. The character is seen pulling on golden links between two giant walls seemingly made of bodies. An act that results in a devastating war against fire giants and armies of soldiers led by Messmer, the central antagonist of the DLC. The tyrant massacres his enemies leaving the World Tree in bad shape and the hope of humanity in the hands of Miquella the Clement, whose power will be revealed in this next chapter. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be available on June 21 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series.
