During the last edition of the Ariège sports trophies, departmental caving was in the spotlight. Two former leaders of the Ariège departmental caving committee received the Volunteer of the Year diploma from MP Martine Froger and Omar Bouyoucef, Paralympic champion; they are Nicole Ravaïau and Robert Guinot. Nicole Ravaïau, has just left the presidency of the Ariège cavers after 12 years of good and loyal service. She joined the board of directors of the Departmental Caving Committee almost 40 years ago, as a representative of the Arize caving club, a club of which she is president. She will be regularly re-elected thereafter. Before taking the helm of this departmental association, she was vice-president. Nicole Ravaïau also held, for many years, the position of head of the cave protection commission, which later became the scientific and environment commission, where she became a referent on a number of files. The second Ariège caver to be rewarded is Robert Guinot. Before taking a well-deserved retirement from community life at the start of the year, he held the purse strings; for 36 years he held the position of departmental treasurer; For the record, he was responsible for managing the transition from the franc to the euro. Robert was also, for more than 30 years, president of the Caving Club of Haut Sabarthes. Alongside this role, he holds positions at regional and national level (Steering Committee of the French Speleology Federation) and is heavily involved in speleological rescue. These diplomas reward a model of longevity in volunteering, congratulations to them.
