The Tour de Suisse continues to be dominated by the UAE team. The Portuguese Joao Almeida won the 6th stage between Ulrichen and Blatten-Belalp (42.5 km) ahead of the yellow jersey Adam Yates.

In this very short stage, everything came down to the final climb. The escapees, including the Swiss Stefan Bissegger, were caught just over 3 km from the finish. The UAE, with once again a lot of work from Marc Hirschi and Jan Christen, set a high pace which blew up the peloton.

Yates attacked with 3.5km to go, but he failed to open up a significant gap. In the final kilometer, the Briton was joined then let go by his Portuguese teammate, who crossed the line 4 seconds ahead. The outgoing winner, Dane Mattias Skjelmose, finished third, 9 seconds behind. Best Swiss, Grison’s Matteo Badilatti conceded 2’27 to the winner.

In the general classification, Adam Yates remains in yellow, but his lead over Almeida is only 27 seconds. The provisional podium is completed by the Colombian Egan Bernal, at 1’28. Badilatti is 19th at 7’02.

On Saturday, the 7th stage will take place over 118 km in a loop in Villars-sur-Ollon, with two passages via the Col de la Croix and twice the climb to the Vaudois station.
