This is one of the most scrutinized constituencies in Gironde, firstly because the incumbent is the Minister Delegate for Public Accounts, and also because he has kept his ambitions for the next municipal election in Bordeaux. Last night, Thomas Cazenave seemed to have avoided the worst that the European elections predicted for him: on June 9, voters voted for the left (LFI, PS and EE) at 38.4%, Renaissance at 19.7% and LR at 10.8%, against 23.1% for the far right (abstention: 42.5%). But three weeks later, the high turnout (71.7%) changed the balance, to the incumbent’s benefit.

He finds himself in a favorable voting position (38.30%) in front of the ecologist Céline Papin (34.23%) and the RN candidate Bruno Paluteau (21%). In the Bordeaux polling stations, the first two were neck and neck with 37.7% for the walker and 36.5% for the ecologist, 19.4% for the RN. In Bruges and Bouscat, the outgoing player achieved his best scores.

While waiting for the final figures, Thomas Cazenave welcomed last night a result “much better than those expected by some”. “It will be a second round between me and the New Popular Front (NFP). There is no RN risk, but there will be the choice between two very different projects,” declared the outgoing, who wants to “carry the voice of moderate, republican and democratic forces” against a coalition associated with the Insoumis, including he denounces “the excesses”.

” Everything is possible “

Against the image of “techno” and of Emmanuel Macron, Thomas Cazenave, born in Bordeaux and remained elected municipal, wanted to focus his brief campaign on his local work, preferring to cultivate an image of centrist, compatible also with the right. Moreover, this time, the Republicans abstained from presenting a candidate against Nicolas Florian’s former running mate, who was visibly full.

Facing him, the New Popular Front has designated the ecologist Céline Papin, deputy to the mayor of Bordeaux and elected metropolitan official, who can also advance her knowledge of the field and her local presence – she has lived in Ginko for years. “The result is very encouraging compared to the Europeans, the dynamic of the union worked, we did not lose any votes, we even gained some. It was not a given in this constituency,” said the elected environmentalist last night, while deploring the RN’s score. “It will be tight, anything is possible. Let’s mobilize, we will be on the ground tomorrow.”

Maintaining the RN

In Bordeaux North, the electoral sociology is contrasted, between traditional strongholds of the right – Le Bouscat, Bruges, Caudéran wealthy neighborhoods (Parc bordelais, Chartrons) and popular ones (Grand Parc, Aubiers, Bacalan), more favorable to the left. This conservative bastion was conquered by the left only once, with Sandrine Doucet (PS) in 2017. It was recaptured by Thomas Cazenave in 2022, who came out on top in the first round (38%) ahead of EELV Catherine Cestari (27%), to win in the second round with 59.11% of the vote.

As for RN candidate Bruno Paluteau, he confirmed last night his intention to remain if he reached 12.5% of those registered, which is the case. “It’s a great satisfaction. » A first, for the same candidate who totaled 9.51% of the votes in 2022.

The environmentalist candidate for the new popular front Céline Papin voted in the Vacla Havel office, in Ginko.
