Getting started with the Sony Xperia 1 VI and first impressions
The Sony Xperia 1 VI for its design.

Sony continues to regularly update its Xperia smartphone range, as we have reported in this column. For a few days now, we have been testing the Xperia 1 VI, the Japanese flagship, boosted with the latest technologies…

The handling is consistent with what Sony usually offers. The beautiful 6.5-inch FHD+ HDR OLED (1080 x 2340) screen is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 enhanced with 12 GB of RAM. The structured glass back gives a nice touch of originality to Sony’s new flagship designed for photography, whose format is now 19.5/9 compared to 21/9 previously. The fingerprint scanner on the side is always nice.

Performance monster!

Obviously, before going any further, we cannot resist asking him the question. After a few minutes, the result falls on the AnTuTu benchmark tool. This latest version from Qualcomm allows it to exceed 1,510,000 points! Ideal for games and mobile users requiring extreme power!

In reality, such power gives extreme responsiveness to this Xperia 1 VI, whose screen benefits from a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Note that it is possible to deactivate this function in the settings to save the 5000 mAh battery that could be recharged up to 30W.

First photo impressions

Sony continues to take care of the photo part of its flagships. For this version, he redesigned the pro photo application which provides access to all the features. Easy to use and offering a display that is as clear as it is effective, it allows Sony to assert itself in this segment!

The continuous optical zoom from 85 to 170 mm is undoubtedly the strong point of this opus. And the first results have impressed us favorably, especially since Sony offers a very correct extrapolation up to more than 21x, against approximately 7.5x in simple optical mode. The quality of the images seems to be there, with precise details and vivid colors, even sometimes in low light.

Sony Xperia 1 VI.

Provisional conclusion

For now, this Xperia with a slightly larger screen seduces us with its power and its cutting-edge audio, photo and video features. We will see in the full test that we find some of Google’s artificial intelligence features in the flagship’s internal software…

The Sony Xperia 1 VI proves to be a real performance monster with a refined design and exceptional photo capabilities, such as in-eye focus tracking. It promises a smooth and responsive user experience, suitable for both gaming enthusiasts and photography enthusiasts. Stay tuned: our full multimedia test coming soon.
