As part of the launch of an information campaign for the population, the very first meeting was held at the youth center last Thursday, where Mayor Véronique Rumeau welcomed Christine Tequi, president of the departmental council, accompanied by the structure’s technicians. It should be noted that: “Ariège is the only department to support users,” declared the president of the Department.

The current network consists of copper cables inside homes. This network is owned by Orange (formerly France-Télécom), which has announced its intention to shut down this copper infrastructure between 2027 and the end of 2029. In Ariège, the date of this definitive shutdown is set for January 31, 2027.

Since 2018, the department has invested 140 million euros to deploy this new 100% wired network.

29 municipalities are still affected by this end of “copper” by January 31, 2027.

“We will go door to door to support the people of Ariège right to the end. The department has decided to go directly to the residents, as and when the historic service closes in the municipalities, in order to prepare for the connection of homes. This first meeting is proof of this.”

Nicolas Hurault, Ariège Très Haut Débit director, Thomas Quentin, technical director and Frédéric Blanc, took turns to present this change, answering questions from the sixty or so participants.
