According to the French brewery professional union Brasseurs de France, in 2022 France was the country in Europe with the most breweries on its territory: 2,500, the majority of which were independent breweries. And 70% of the beers consumed in the country are produced in France.
The French love beer, just like their British and German neighbors. However, none of these three populations is in the top 3 of biggest consumers.
As Statista data published in September 2024 shows, Spain is the country that consumes the most beer, with more than half of respondents in Spain (51%) saying they are regular beer consumers. Next comes Mexico, with 50% of respondents claiming to be accustomed to hops. In third position we find Italy. 48% of our transalpine neighbors consider themselves to be regular consumers.
But where does France stand then? The data reveals that 35% of French respondents say they drink beer regularly, compared to 33% in Great Britain and 32% in Germany. Our country is therefore placed in sixth position ahead of its fellow tankards.
Finally, in tenth and last position, we find Americans, 22% of whom present themselves as regular beer drinkers.
