the essential
At 80 years old, Marie-France Goudefroye-Manem remains a key figure in Pays de Foix Basket, passing on her passion for Basketball across generations.
Basketball goes beyond a simple sporting framework for Marie-France Goudefroye-Manem: it embodies a vibrant family history, transmitted with fervor through the generations. A former basketball player, Marie-France volunteered for more than 27 years in the Pays de Foix Basket, where she became an essential figure.
This is why, on December 21, to her great surprise, Marie-France celebrated her 80th birthday surrounded by members of the club at the Vernajoul gymnasium: “We organized a Christmas snack which fell right on her birthday, so we wanted to surprise him for his 80th birthday. We gave him a club sweatshirt and other little touches,” explains Sylvie Grau, co-president of the PFB.
Basketball, a family affair
Originally from Nord-Pas-de-Calais, this former player passed on her love of basketball to her granddaughter Orlane – who today plays for the national team in Clermont-Ferrand – as well as to the students of Serres-sur-Arget : “All his sons are also basketball players,” continues Sylvie Grau. 27 years ago, she met Matthieu Latrille, today co-president of Pays de Foix Varilhes, who asked her to join the club. This is how the adventure truly began. »
For many years, Marie-France continued teaching basketball with her team in Serres-sur-Arget, part of the Foix club: “Marie-France trained players for many years, from toddlers to 'to the chicks, and she always took care of doing the shopping and preparing the children's snacks. During a period, she followed the senior girls everywhere, even outside, and today, she continues to take care of the snacks, and she keeps the clock.” At 80 years old, Marie-France Goudefroye-Manem remains a tireless pillar of Pays de Foix Basket.
