Pro League clubs regularly try to give former players a chance when launching their careers as coaches. But Peter Van Houdt was not delighted with what Sint-Truiden offered him.

Former Pro League players at the helm or within D1A or D1B club staff are legion and even the majority: David Hubert, Ivan Leko, Nicky Hayen, Jonas De Roeck, Besnik Hasi, Timmy Simons and Wouter Vrancken, to name but a few. only T1s – all have been players in various Pro League clubs and have been able to get their foot in the door.

But there are even more aspiring coaches who are biding their time, and are not receiving the helping hand they hoped for from their former club(s). This is the case of Peter Van HoudtRed Devil on 6 occasions and former player of Roda, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Sint-Truiden.

Having become a coach, Van Houdt first coached in the lower divisions, at KVK Wellen, Hades and Geel, before offering his services to his former club. But STVV has not been very forthcoming. “Seven years ago, I offered myself to Sint-Truiden… and they told me that they only had a U7 coaching position to offer me. Sorry, but that’s what I don’t do it”, reveals the ex-Red Devil in the Importance of Limburg.

“Last summer I spoke with the Japanese management but nothing came of it either. STVV likes to talk about involving more veterans in the club, but behind it it doesn’t follow through and they take someone “It’s their choice,” concludes Peter Van Houdt.

The former Canaries striker still had his chance as coach of the Westerlo U18s for two years, but has therefore been free since last summer. It failed to bounce back at Stayen, but will certainly remain on the market…
