Does the arrival of retail giant Costco in Rimouski threaten the economy of surrounding cities? If many merchants are worried about seeing their sales decrease, they hope to be able to continue to stand out through the quality of their service and the knowledge of their products. A bet which, however, is not won in advance.

The recommendation from the Quebec coroner’s office to widen Highway 20 and add a central reservation between Rimouski and Mont-Joli has reignited the debate, while the Minister of Transport had mentioned in 2023 that these developments would not were not necessary. However, the global trend is towards reducing risks on the road, like Vision Zero.
In total, between 2009 and 2022, 955 accidents, including 18 fatal, occurred on this section alone, according to the SAAQ.

Last August, the number of abandoned animals was sharply increasing in Rimouski. This is truly an exceptional situation when it comes to stray animals.
described the general director of the Rimouski Animal Services Center, Jeanne Mercier. The center reported having taken care of more than 150 animals since the beginning of the summer, most of which were stray cats. The pets had been abandoned or found by the organization without an owner asking for them.
The July 1st moves were until now the main cause of this increase, according to Jeanne Mercier. Now, Ms. Mercier also attributes this trend to access to veterinary care as well as the costs of a visit to the clinic.

André Bourgoin, the victim of the homicide that occurred in September in Mont-Joli, was well known to the police. According to our information, the man who was killed in a residence on rue Aubin was already linked to the Hells Angels. Five people from the Montreal region were charged in connection with this event. The 46-year-old victim from Mont-Joli was arrested in 2019 by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in the wake of Operation Oursin, a vast dragnet which had in its sights a drug trafficking network linked to the Hells Angels. This network was active in Eastern Quebec and New Brunswick.
The SQ has also recently confirmed that armed violence linked to organized crime has been on the rise for a year in Eastern Quebec.
André Bourgoin was described as a central player in drug trafficking in the region, according to the judgment rendered by Judge Luce Kennedy in February 2021. His involvement in the network turned out to be brief, but important in the eyes of the magistrate.
