Windows 11 24H2 is causing major issues with some games

Windows 11 24H2 appears to be causing serious issues for some gamers, especially those playing titles like Path of Exile 2 and Assassin’s Creed Origins. There are reports of degraded performance, complete system crashes, and bugs affecting the CPU, sometimes requiring a forced PC restart.

Path of Exile 2: Frequent freezes and 100% CPU

Some players experience that their CPU reaches 100% utilization when loading new areas in Path of Exile 2. Such stress is often accompanied by system freezes and audio lags. The origin of the problem seems to be linked to the task scheduler or to the management of the Windows 11 24H2 processor cores.

The various feedback mentions several symptoms such as a total freeze of the PC, making the task manager inaccessible, slowdowns of the mouse cursor and audio before the system becomes unusable or even a potential incompatibility with the DirectX 12 API , according to some players using Ryzen Master.

Faced with these failures, some users have proposed workarounds like

  • Return to Windows 11 23H2 or even Windows 10. This seems to be the most effective method to regain stable performance but with the need to reinstall everything (drivers, software, accounts, games, etc.)
  • Limit the number of processor cores via “affinity settings” or tools like Ryzen Master. However, this method is only an ideal solution and may lead to other problems.

Microsoft response

Microsoft acknowledged these issues via the Feedback Hub, labeling the reports as “under review.” The company is therefore informed of the malfunctions but no official fix has yet been deployed.

In addition to Path of Exile 2, games like Assassin’s Creed Origins and other titles are also experiencing issues like performance issues, USB disconnections, and audio bugs. Steam forums and Reddit are filled with complaints about this, with some users reporting that these hangs make games virtually unplayable.
