Netflix releases a number of films and series into its catalog every week, without anyone noticing them or the platform officially announcing it. Écran Large looks back at the new features added by Netflix from January 3 to 9, 2025, films and series combined in a non-exhaustive list.
What are the films and series not to be missed this week on the streaming platform ?
Wallace & Gromit: La Palme de la vengeance
- Already available
- Duration: 1h22
What is it about? Gromit worries that Wallace has become too dependent on his inventions, after his creation of an intelligent gnome…
Why should you watch it? Simply because it’s the new Wallace & Gromitduck ! When joining forces with Netflix, Aardman promised us sequels to two of its biggest hits. After the very good Chicken Run 2it’s up to its inimitable mascots to finally be entitled to new adventures. The stop-motion stars are therefore at the center of a second feature film, almost 20 years after The Brilliant Mystery of the Were-Rabbit.
Ultimate treat: they will face the legendary Feathers McGraw againantagonist of their most famous film, The Bad Pants. Will this episode include sequences as extraordinary as the famous chase which largely contributed to the studio’s reputation? We can’t wait to find out.
At the dawn of America
- Available January 9
- Length: six episodes of approximately 1 hour each
What is it about? About the journey of a mother and her son in America in 1857 where the thirst for freedom and violence reign.
Why should you watch it? Because the trailer for At the dawn of America makes you want to, which is a good start, but also because the story is reminiscent of Kevin Costner’s recent western fresco, Horizon. But with much, much more violence, abuse of all kinds and therefore, we hope, fun. Especially since the creator Peter Berg (Painkiller, Spenser Confidential and a quarter of Mark Wahlberg’s filmography) is a regular at muscular entertainment, whether with Hancock or Battleship.
Other bonus points: the presence in the screenplay of Mark L. Smith, who is, among other things, the co-writer of the film The Revenantand that of the casting of the charismatic Betty Gilpin (The Hunt, The Grudge). She will share the bill with Jai Coutney (Terminator Genisys, Suicide Squad), Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets) ou encore Shea Whigham (Take Shelter, American Bluff).
The Crazy Story of Max and Léon
- Available January 8
- Duration: 1h38
What is it about? The adventure of two lazy and not very smart childhood friends who try by all means (especially the worst) to escape the Second World War.
Why should you watch it? Because before touching The Stars, The Crazy Story of Max and Léon was Palmashow’s first film as screenwriters, and above all the first feature film entirely centered on the duo of comedians and actors. Grégoire Ludig and David Marsais, under the lens of Jonathan Barré, deliver a sketch film that is entertaining to say the least, which uses the good-natured parodic humor that made their success, in addition to paying homage to the most popular French comedies.
We also find an impressive line-up of actors and actresses: Christophe Lambert, Dominique Pinon, Nicolas Marié, Florence Foresti, Simon Astier, Kad Merad, Kyan Khojandi, Jonathan Cohen, Baptiste Lecaplain and Alice Vial.
But also Power, Dogs of the Hill, Crime at the Root…
