INFO ACTU LYON. Urban violence broke out this Monday, December 30, 2024 in Lyon. Around forty individuals wearing black hoods were reported in the Guillotière district at 3 p.m.
Suspected of violence, eighteen people, probably young men, were arrested.

The Rhône prefecture indicates to news Lyon that the situation was brought under control before 4 p.m. this Monday. On site, our journalist notes that the Guillotière district as well as the Presqu'île around Place Bellecour, patrolled by the police, have regained their calm.
Numerous filter barriers are in place, such as on the Guillotière bridge where a cordon of police officers is carrying out searches on pedestrians. Checks targeting groups of young people are carried out as far as Rue de la République.
A “disturbance to public order”
When questioned, the Rhône prefecture indicated that the situation degenerated again this Monday in connection with the crowds on Thursday 26 and damage on Friday December 27.
Calling to gather again, around forty hooded individuals gathered near Place Gabriel-Péri, along the banks of the Rhône. In videos posted on social networks, some called for attacks on businesses.
Intervening on the spot, the police were reportedly subjected to projectiles and mortar fireworks while trying to disperse the crowd. Police are currently searching for individuals who may have participated in this gathering.
The mayor of Lyon reacted
As a reminder, the first overflows began on Thursday December 26. While the arrival of the influencer HMI in the streets of Lyon had been banned by the Rhône prefecture (the latter fearing disturbances to public order), hundreds of young people nevertheless gathered near the square Bellecour in the hope of seeing their idol arrive and collect gifts.
Running and shouting in the streets, provoking the police, they ultimately caused trouble for several hours.
“These actions must stop. Everything must be done so that the perpetrators of these misdeeds are punished,” the mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet reacted this Friday by visiting the targeted businesses.
