The criminal chamber of first instance in Casablanca has decided to postpone the trial of the former minister and ex-president of the commune of Fquih Ben Salah, Mohamed Moubdi, to January 9, 2025.
The criminal chamber of first instance responsible for financial crimes at the Court of Appeal of Casablanca announced this Thursday the postponement of the trial of Mohamed Moubdi, as well as his co-defendants. This decision by the Court was taken as part of a request made by the defense of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Property (AMPBP), which requested additional time to prepare its civil claims. The next hearing has been set for January 9, 2025.
The deputy public prosecutor announced that he will examine the documents relating to the association as well as its internal regulations. This examination will determine whether this organization can be accepted as a civil party in the current procedure.
Moubdi thus finds himself in preventive detention, in the company of twelve co-defendants, facing serious accusations of squandering public funds, abuse of power, corruption and falsification of authentic, commercial and official documents. These charges come in the wake of an investigation into considerable sums of money which were allegedly transferred to his personal account by representatives of companies having won contracts outside the legal framework.
This case originated in a complaint filed by the Casablanca-Settat regional section of the AMPBP against Moubdi. In its complaint, the association highlighted a series of alleged offenses, including embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment and violation of legislation governing public procurement.
Recall that Moubdi was incarcerated in Oukacha on April 26, 2023 following an investigation carried out by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ). On May 26, the Constitutional Court declared the seat he occupied in the House of Representatives vacant.
