In a constantly changing world, how do young people see themselves in 2025? Faced with professional aspirations, ecological concerns and the quest for stability, their perspectives reflect the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. Between optimism and uncertainty, this generation stands out for its desire to imagine a bold and committed future. They share with us their dreams, their fears and their projects…
Adi Nuckchadee, 19: A bold vision
“The year 2025 looks promising for our island. My efforts are paying off and I can’t wait to see my dreams come true. As a young person, I am convinced that we are the future. With the right resources, each of us can achieve our ambitions. I have a few personal projects in the works that I hope will help me find my way. But my aspirations go beyond my personal projects. I would like to become more involved in the political life of Mauritius in order to contribute to a better future. In addition, my passion for automobiles pushes me to explore this field. I am also considering starting a business, a project that still requires work, but which I am determined to make happen. I am convinced that 2025 will be a pivotal year, both for me and for our island.”
Lushika Ramyead, 19 years old: Building the future with passion and determination
“In 2025, I see myself at an important stage in my life, full of discoveries and challenges. Having recently obtained my Higher School Certificate, I want to focus on projects that reflect my ambitions and dreams. I plan to continue my studies in fields such as communication, psychology or business management in order to acquire the skills necessary to build a career that suits me.
At the same time, I would like to start a personal project, such as a blog or an online channel, to share advice, experiences and inspirations. My goal is to help other young people navigate this pivotal time while building community and expressing myself freely. I also see myself traveling to discover new cultures, meet people and broaden my horizons. These experiences will allow me to grow and better understand the world. Like many young people, I have fears about the future, particularly regarding job stability and environmental issues. However, I am convinced that my determination and my ability to adapt will help me meet these challenges. 2025 will be the year where I lay solid foundations for my projects while remaining open to opportunities.”
Tania Leung Miow Wah, 20 years old: Between academic ambitions and personal aspirations
“My 2025 will primarily consist of pursuing my college degree as a freshman as part of my career path. Beyond that, I also want to flourish in my personal life. I dream of traveling to discover other cultures, volunteering and broadening my vision of the world, while cultivating a certain independence. Despite my enthusiasm, I am concerned about academic pressure and success. I am afraid of failure, because with the increase in academic demands and the importance of results for the professional future, I fear not being up to the task. Additionally, the difficulty of juggling studies, exams, projects and social life can be a source of stress. In 2025, I would like to invest more in volunteer projects, whether participating in events for social, environmental or humanitarian causes. Additionally, I would like to improve my skills, such as learning a new language and, of course, getting my driving license!”
Irfaan Rujbally, 29 years old: A turning point for our island
“After six years spent in France pursuing higher studies in computer engineering, I am finally back in Mauritius, my native land. This return was marked by an observation that was both bitter and motivating: the economic and social situation on our island has further deteriorated since my departure. However, far from discouraging me, it strengthened my desire to actively contribute to the improvement of our country. This is how I decided to get involved in politics by joining the ranks of the New Democrats party. This movement seduced me with its founding principles: meritocracy, democracy and ecology. It is these values, which I fully share, which will guide my actions in 2025.
My objective is to participate in concrete and innovative projects aimed at relaunching the economy and improving the daily lives of Mauritians. Whether it is promoting ecological initiatives, supporting education or creating opportunities for our youth, I plan to work hand in hand with party members and citizens.
The year 2025 will, I hope, mark a turning point for our island. With a common vision and united efforts, I am convinced that we can build a better future for Mauritius.”
Yann Jhugroo-Cangy, 22 years old: New start
“2025 is for me the real start of my life, because I am preparing to fully enter adult life. My overarching plan is to start building a solid career and lay the foundations for a fulfilling life. I would like to continue my studies to deepen my skills and be better prepared for the demands of the working world. The specialization I am aiming for reflects my desire to actively contribute to a field that inspires me and where I can make a difference.
However, this transitional stage does not come without apprehensions. I fear unforeseen events that could slow down my career, as well as the uncertainty of finding a balance between my professional and personal ambitions. Added to this is my desire to travel, because discovering the world is for me a source of cultural and personal enrichment. Despite these concerns, I remain determined to carefully plan my steps and surpass myself. At the same time, I hope to develop personal and creative projects, in particular by investing more in entrepreneurial initiatives. In 2025, I want to fully commit to the quest for my dreams while remaining true to my values. This year represents a unique opportunity for transformation and growth and I am ready to take on the challenges that arise.”
Émilie Soogund, 20 years old: Faith and kindness
“While 2024 has been a busy year, 2025 will be the year I fully savor life’s precious moments. It will also be an opportunity to slow down, live fully and thank God for every moment. This year will mark an important milestone with my entry into university, where I will be able to deepen my knowledge, grow spiritually and make new friends.
I want to have a positive impact on my generation by inspiring them to believe in themselves, and to engage in actions of kindness and change. At the same time, I am committed to supporting political initiatives and fighting food insecurity by promoting sustainable solutions. 2025 will be a year of challenges and blessings. I am convinced that, guided by God, every step I take will be an opportunity to grow and contribute to a better world.
To you who read me, may 2025 be a year full of blessings. May you, in every challenge, feel the peace of God and may every step you take bring you closer to His will. Let us never forget that we are here to love, serve and make a difference around us!”
Shiksha Jowaheer, 22: Inspiring youth for a sustainable future
“Good ideas have no age, they only have a future,” according to Robert Mallet. Being a conscious and dynamic young person, I feel responsible to contribute to building a flourishing future for our country and future generations, through the continuation of projects and improvement initiatives between now and 2025. We are undoubtedly troubled by the degradation of our environment, the increase in the number of drug addicts and alcoholics, the loss of our cultures, as well as the lack of respect. The question then arises: is it a lack of will or ignorance on the part of young people?
However, all things are possible for those who believe! My vision for 2025 includes implementing reforms in retirement homes and orphanages. By living together, children feel loved thanks to the presence of older people, while the latter regain companionship. In addition, creating new trends on social networks, by launching challenges such as practicing sports, meditation, planting or relearning values, could encourage young people to get involved positively.
The key remains in our hands. So, let’s act now to encourage young people to engage in philanthropic actions, in order to build a more inclusive and sustainable society!”
Seesungkur Loo Chen-Chen Emily Chitra, 20: The importance of balance and simplicity
“The year 2025 is finally here, bringing with it a breath of renewal. At 20 years old, a medical student, I find myself at an important stage in my life, where my dreams and my responsibilities meet. This new year invites me to think about what I want to accomplish, whether it is success in my studies, traveling to discover new horizons or getting involved in volunteer projects.
My main goal is to slow down and savor the little moments of everyday life: a meal shared with family, a silent walk or a burst of laughter. I also want to cultivate my passions outside of my studies: writing, reading more, playing more sports or trying a new activity. These moments of reconnection with myself are essential to maintaining balance. However, certain fears accompany me, such as that of not being able to find this balance between studies, family and passions. Procrastination or the fear of not being good enough sometimes worries me. But I want to transform these doubts into motivation and move forward with kindness.
To those who read me: Don’t wait for a special occasion to celebrate life. Enjoy your loved ones, because happiness often lies in simplicity. May this new year bring you peace, health and joy.”
Nikhil Luchmun, 23 years old: Building a fairer society
“At the dawn of 2025, a burning question arises: what do today’s young people dream of, aspire to and fear? If the last decades have been marked by technological, climatic and social upheavals, the current generation finds itself at the crossroads of multiple paths, confronted with crucial choices. Immersed in a changing reality, I see 2025 as a land filled with challenges and opportunities, both on a personal and professional level.
My aspirations? Contribute to building a fairer, more inclusive and more sustainable society, whether through social projects or this side-business that I procrastinate on every year. Talking about our fears openly remains a sensitive subject. With the arrival of a new year, I hope that everyone can find their safe space while making sure to include others. Let us not forget the crises that we cannot control: global warming, nepotism and inequality, among others. The focus of this new year will be on developing skills for a world that we are already shaping. And above all, never lose this flame, this desire to make 2025 a year where our dreams come true. Let’s all learn together to use our fears to push us to innovate, to learn, to collaborate to create a better Mauritius!
We are the future. And we are ready!”
