Makhtar Diop, Director General of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), completed a four-day visit to Senegal aimed at strengthening the institution’s commitments in the country.

This visit was an opportunity for him to highlight IFC’s commitment to the national development program “Vision Senegal 2050”.

It is in this context that he announced two new funding intended to support projects aimed at promoting social and economic development as well as creating jobs in the country’s tourism and manufacturing industry sectors.

“A green loan of 75 million euros in favor of Sococim, one of the main integrated cement producers in Senegal, aimed at increasing the production of low-carbon cement and helping to fill the housing deficit in the country, as well as that a loan of 10 million euros in favor of the Azalaï group, a leading hotel player in West Africa, to support the tourism sector in Senegal and beyond, will be granted,” indicates a press release.

“These projects underscore IFC’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and development in Senegal. By investing in key sectors such as tourism and manufacturing, IFC and its partners are laying the foundation for a stronger and more resilient private sector. They illustrate our commitment to creating opportunities, improving living standards and fostering inclusive growth for the Senegalese people,” said Mr. Diop.

On the occasion of his visit, Mr. Diop met His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, as well as the Ministers of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Energy , Oil and Mining, Industry and Commerce, private sector leaders and founders of technological start-ups. He highlighted IFC’s growing commitment to supporting the development and diversification of the country’s economy.
