MONTREAL — Two people were arrested Friday in connection with the shooting of a 39-year-old woman in front of a hair salon in broad daylight almost two years ago in Montreal.
On May 16, 2023, around 4:30 p.m., the victim was attacked while driving his vehicle in a commercial parking lot located near Jean-Talon Ouest and de la Savane streets, in the Côte-des-Neiges district.
Several media outlets identified the victim as the daughter-in-law of a member of the Italian mafia, also shot and killed a few years earlier. A spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), Jean-Pierre Brabant, refused to confirm this information “in order not to harm the investigation which is underway and out of respect for the family of the victim”.
However, he confirmed that the suspects, aged 28 and 31, were apprehended Friday morning by the SPVM Tactical Intervention Group (GTI). The suspects were expected to appear during the day on Friday at the Montreal courthouse and remain detained pending further legal proceedings.
Two other individuals had already been arrested as part of this investigation concerning the eighth murder to occur on the island of Montreal in 2023. This concerns a 28-year-old man arrested by the Ontario provincial police, the June 6, 2023, near Toronto, and a 30-year-old man arrested on August 14, 2023 by the major crimes section of the SPVM. They both face charges of premeditated murder.
The investigation is still ongoing, also underlined the spokesperson for the SPVM.
“For the moment, the file is not closed. The investigation continues and if anyone has any further information, they can. contact the Info-Crime Montréal line at (514) 393-1133,” indicated Officer Brabant.
